Abstract

This paper proposes a design and implementation of a mobile stream data processing application, with an application to the stock market. In existing stream data managements systems, data streams are transmitted to a server where the management and processing of queries take place, before the results are transmitted on an outbound stream - possibly to another mobile device. However, no strategies exist that receive and process stream data directly on a mobile device, without having to rely on the services of a server. The application focuses on processing selection and projection queries on incoming data streams, therefore requiring minimal storage and no outbound transmission of results, as they are displayed directly to the user. In addition, queries can also be saved for future processing. This work has produced several new research directions in the area of mobile stream data processing.
