Abstract
La « théorie de la cultivation » (cultivation theory) fait partie des approches les plus discutées en sociologie de la communication de masse. Cependant elle suscite plus de passions que d’analyses et de critiques argumentées. Cet article tente de la présenter dans sa complexité et de la situer par rapport à ses critiques. En effet, si personne ne doute plus des impacts des mass médias dans la formation et la transmission de la connaissance, la théorie de la cultivation représente l'une des celles qui s'efforcent de les mettre en évidence.
