Most of the renewable energy sources are far from power system such as wind power systems. The suitable technology for connecting offshore wind plants to the onshore AC power system is the voltage-source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) transmission system. Next to providing additional flexibility to the system through flow control, HVDC provides additional transmission capacity in itself. Currently, the high-voltage multi-terminal dc (MTDC) systems play an important role in harvesting offshore wind energy. Power systems encounter with new challenges due to high penetration of renewable energy sources, which are connected to the system via power electronic converter. In this paper, the benefit of energy storage systems in three-terminal VSC based HVDC link connected OWFs, is modeled and its performance is analyzed using EMTP-VR. The response of the proposed MTDC system is evaluated under various wind generation and power system fault situation.
