Serge Garant a été directeur artistique de la Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) pendant 20 ans, soit de 1966 à 1986, année de sa mort. Sous sa direction, cette société de concerts, qu’on qualifie de « doyenne des sociétés de musique actuelle au Canada », a fait oeuvre de pionnière, de partenaire de la création, de propagatrice et d’éducatrice. C’est grâce à un travail soutenu et une passion indéfectible, que Serge Garant, aidé des musiciens, de l’équipe administrative et des différents membres du conseil d’administration, a pu faire de la SMCQ un organisme de premier plan pour la promotion de la création au Québec. L’auteure retrace ici les grands moments de la société à l’ère de Serge Garant.
