Spectral Modal Decomposition of Abrupt Fiber Tapers Based on Simulated Annealing Method

Abstract
A novel solution for the abrupt tapers' modal decomposition is proposed based on the simulated annealing method. A single spectral measurement extracts the taper's modal contents using prior knowledge of device analytics. A perturbed mode-coupling model provides the optimization initialization. The modal decomposition performance is evaluated based on the spectral matching with various fabricated tapers. Several optimization tuning parameters are identified.
