Raconter le passé colonial de France est devenu un devoir de mémoire. L’on peut dire que les sujets exilés sont comme des êtres déplacés qui n’arrivent à trouver la paix qu’en embrassant les histoires qui ressemblent à la leur. Cette pluralité les dote d’une force qui fait entendre leur voix occultée depuis le début de l’histoire coloniale française. Djebar voyageant vers l’écriture fait un parcours douloureux pour raconter le malaise du sujet postcolonial. De ce fait, la scène de sa défloraison en France est une scène banale qui devient symbolique. Cette défloraison issue d’un acte soudain et violent lui fait mal, mais la libère, car elle devient le point déclencheur d’un roman autobiographique multilangue et de voix plurielle.
