El alineamiento constructivo es un modelo pedagógico ideado por el profesor australiano John Biggs que surge como resultado de la genuina preocupación acerca de cómo mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza en un sistema postsecundario impactado por cambios estructurales que abren las puertas de la educación superior a nuevos sectores sociales. El modelo intenta responder a la pregunta de cómo enseñar para que todos los miembros de la clase aprendan más profundamente y cómo revitalizar el sentido de enseñar más allá de transmitir contenidos. El presente ensayo se propone responder las siguientes preguntas: ¿en qué consiste el alineamiento constructivo?; ¿qué problemas lo han originado?; ¿cómo nos afecta a los docentes del nivel superior actualmente?; ¿cuáles son los riesgos y las oportunidades de utilizar el concepto como instrumento del planeamiento de la enseñanza?; ¿qué debemos saber los docentes para aplicar este concepto en nuestras clases, crítica pero no mecánicamente? Mediante la interpretación hermenéutica de textos, que incluyen trabajos teóricos sobre alineamiento constructivo y otros documentos institucionales, se analiza la aplicación del modelo de alineamiento constructivo propuesto por Biggs en la educación superior en países como Estados Unidos, Canadá y Australia. Se concluye que la aplicación de este modelo ha hecho mayor énfasis en su aspecto técnico y se ha dejado de lado el aspecto constructivista, lo que lo ha desnaturalizado y distanciado de sus objetivos originales.
