Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

We analyze optimal contractual forms and equilibrium matching in a double-sided
\nmoral hazard model of sharecropping similar to Eswaran and Kotwal (1985). We
\nshow that, with endogenous matching, the presence of moral hazard can reverse the
\nmatching pattern relative to the Örst best, and that even if sharecropping is optimal
\nfor an exogenously given pair of agent skills, it may not be observed in equilibrium
\nwith endogenous matching. The economy with endogenous matching features less
\nsharecropping compared to an economy with agent skills drawn at random from the
\nsame distribution. This suggests that studies of agency costs in sharecropping may
\nunderestimate their extent if focusing only on the intensive margin and ignoring the
\nextensive margin.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
