Abstract
O turismo enquanto fenômeno econômico e social potencializa o desenvolvimento local, promovendo uma série de alterações nos espaços urbanos da cidade de São Luís-MA, com ênfase naqueles da região da Praia Grande, onde também estão concentrados grande parte dos espaços históricos e turísticos da cidade. Esta pesquisa objetiva estudar a participação social na gestão desses espaços por meio da análise da estrutura dos projetos de lazer e turismo Pôr do Sol no Palácio e Quarta do Tambor, realizados no Palácio dos Leões e na Casa do Tambor de Crioula, respectivamente. Estes projetos possibilitam um maior acesso da população às manifestações culturais, evidenciado a preocupação latente do Poder Público em desenvolver alternativas de lazer e turismo à moradores e turistas. Entretanto, a participação dos moradores locais ainda acontece de forma limitada, compreendendo apenas a participação passiva como espectadores. Em nenhuma de suas fases os gestores apresentam mecanismos de participação social no planejamento e gestão desses projetos, comprometendo a democratização ampla e horizontal da gestão dos espaços da cidade.Palavras-chave: Participação Social.
