Abstract
I Farmers’ Rights sono stati introdotti dal Trattato internazionale sulle risorse genetiche vegetali per l’alimentazione e l’agricoltura nel 2001 quale riconoscimento del contributo che gli e le comunita rurali hanno dato nella creazione, conservazione, scambio e valorizzazione delle risorse genetiche. Essi sono dei collettivi che appaiono antitetici ai quelli di natura individuale rappresentati dai di proprieta intellettuale che hanno determinato, da parte delle multinazionali farmaceutiche e del seme, la sottrazione dell’uso di dette risorse alle comunita rurali. Nell’attuale fase storica e importante l’affermazione dei diritti degli agricoltori sulle risorse genetiche ai fini sia della sicurezza alimentare che della preservazione dell’ambiente e della biodiversita; contribuiscono, altresi, alla prevenzione del cambiamento climatico e al mantenimento delle conoscenze tradizionali e locali.
