Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Poverty, sedentary lifestyle and obesity among young people are public health issues on which several global and provincial organizations, such as the World Health Organization and the Institut national de la santé publique du Québec, have been providing concrete solutions for several decades to reduce their negative impacts (INSPQ, 2006 & OMS, 2020). Despite numerous studies (Springer et al., 2015 ; Bowser et al., 2016 ; Van Dyke et al., 2018) that have examined the phenomena of physical inactivity and obesity in young people, all the existing relationships between the socio-economic background and the latter have not yet been clearly demonstrated. The current literature presents little, or no data allowing these elements to be linked to the cultural reality of a country like Canada, and even less in Quebec. Thus, the objectives of the present project are to study the existing links between socio-economic status, anthropometric characteristics, VO2max and the perception of body image among young Quebecers aged 6 to 18 from various socioeconomic backgrounds. To do this, we used an existing database of 3,734 participants from different Quebec schools (elementary and secondary). This includes standardized anthropometric measurements (weight, height, age, sex and body mass index), physical conditioning including the number of stages completed in the 20-meter shuttle run test (Léger, 1984) and the estimated VO2max, as well as the results of a body image questionnaire. These covariates were subjected to descriptive analysis, unpaired and paired t tests, discriminant analysis as well as binomial logistic regressions, in order to demonstrate their relationship with the dependent variable, the socioeconomic status. The results obtained corroborate the impact of socio-economic status on all the variables, and more particularly among girls, supporting the importance of the establishment of sports infrastructures and programs among young people within the Quebec population.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
