Abstract
«Le législateur du monde»: cette formule de José del Valle traduit un double enthousiasme. L’enthousiasme des révolutionnaires d’Amérique latine pour l’expertise juridique de Jeremy Bentham sur les terrains du droit et de l’économie. Et l’enthousiasme de Bentham à l’égard des Etats-Unis, du Canada, de l’Inde ou, à partir de 1808, de ces jeunes nations en révolte contre la domination coloniale espagnole dans lesquelles il voyait un précieux terrain d’expérimentation sociale. De 1786 à 1832, pendant plus de quarantecinq ans, Bentham s’est passionné pour la question coloniale.
