Abstract
La naissance constitue pour toute famille un bouleversement identitaire. Dans ce contexte, le « devenir grand-parent » est encore peu étudié. Les auteurs ont mené plusieurs entretiens conjointement chez des parents et grands-parents dans une population tout-venant au Québec. Les résultats illustrent les enjeux identitaires qui surgissent autour de la naissance entre les parents et leurs propres parents. Les parents s’expriment sur l’attente quant au soutien que pourraient apporter ces derniers. Les grands-parents, qui semblent plutôt en attente de relations avec le bébé, passeraient par ce soutien pour trouver leur propre place dans l’économie familiale. Avec des différences selon les sexes, les grands-parents concourent ainsi à construire grâce à cet étayage un berceau psychique familial qui réunit dans un premier cercle les parents avec leur bébé. En périnatalité, cette « fonction » grand-parentale permettrait d’envisager la spécificité d’un second cercle autour du bébé, propre également aux interventions des professionnels.
