Abstract
Les auteurs de ce texte utilisent les données de l'Enquête sociale générale sur la victimisation de 1999 de Statistique Canada pour analyser la fréquence, les effets et les conséquences de la violence conjugale. Ces données ont été obtenues d'un échantillon national représentatif des femmes et des hommes. L'étude démontre que les taux de violence conjugale pour cinq ans et ceux qui portent sur un an seulement sont un peu plus élevés pour les femmes et que cette différence est significative statistiquement. Ces taux plus élevés portent sur les unions antérieures aux unions actuelles.
