Abstract
Catalogue for an exhibition of works by Whittome – drawings, prints, collages, photographs, sculptures and installations – produced between 1963 and 1999. Lamoureux recounts her two-year dialogue with the artist, and identifies the following themes in the work: automythography and the reinvention of the self; the representation and manipulation of organic material; and strategies of appropriation, assimilation, transformation and experimentation. She also describes how Whittome structured the exhibition: early works were combined with recent pieces and placed alongside historical drawings/artefacts gathered from the permanent collection of the Musee du Quebec.
