Combined Shear-Wave Seismic Reflection and H/V Spectral Ratio Surveys - A Case Study

Abstract
Summary We have simultaneously acquired Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio measurements and a seismic shear-wave reflection profile. H/V data is not at all influenced by the vibrating seismic source as the frequency ranges of both methods are not overlapping. The fundamental frequency of several H/V sites helped improve the most critical step in shear-wave reflection processing: Because of the knowledge of a deep seismic resonator several deep reflections could be identified on the velocity semblance gathers and thus an improved shear-wave reflection image is provided. A combined survey is able to provide geotechnical information like fundamental frequency, shear-wave velocities and Vs30 from direct measurements but also sediment types and characteristics from seismic facies analysis.
