Elisabeth est une petite fille de 7 ans qui a peur de l’echec. Cette apprehension se manifeste d’abord a l’ecole, plus particulierement en situation d’apprentissage des mathematiques, ou elle eprouve des difficultes. Des qu’il est question de mathematiques, Elisabeth se met a se gratter, a avoir mal au ventre et a paniquer. Un jour, Elisabeth invite son amie Mathilde a la maison. Celle-ci a apporte son jeu geant d’Echelles et serpents. Des qu’Elisabeth sent qu’elle pourrait s’arreter sur la case d’un serpent, elle menace d’arreter de jouer. Elle n’accepte pas l’eventualite de perdre. Elisabeth a tendance a se devaloriser et sa confiance en elle se deteriore. Ses pensees negatives envahissent son discours interieur et par consequent, teintent sa perception de la realite. Le pere d’Elisabeth est tres attentif aux reactions d’anxiete de sa fille. Il lui proposera differents moyens pour reprendre confiance en elle et integrer des principes de resolution de problemes qu’elle pourra utiliser dans differentes activites de sa vie. Le taux de prevalence des troubles anxieux Le trouble anxieux represente le trouble psychopathologique le plus frequent chez les enfants. Au Quebec, une etude (Breton et al. 1992) rapporte une prevalence des troubles anxieux de 15 % chez des enfants de 6 a 14 ans.
