L'ouvrage de Peter-Paul Bänziger sur la modernité comme expérience est divisé en six chapitres.Il revient d'abord sur les sphères familiales et les activités de loisirs des familles de classe moyenne entre le foyer familial et la vie sociale à l'extérieur du foyer.Dans un second temps, l'auteur étudie les contextes professionnels et la description des distractions et des expériences mémorables dans l'environnement de travail.
