Décédé en 2014, Louis Bergeron a été l’un de ceux qui ont le plus contribué à la prise en considération du patrimoine de l’industrie en France à partir des années 1975, puis dans le monde à la fin du XXe siècle et au début du XXI e . Historien, directeur d’études dans l’un des plus grands établissements de recherche français, il a beaucoup travaillé sur les élites financières et industrielles de la France au XIX e siècle. Intimement convaincu qu’il fallait conserver les traces matérielles de l’industrie depuis son émergence, en tant que témoignages d’une culture technique commune à toutes les grandes nations, au même titre que les cultures religieuses ou artistiques, il a décuplé des initiatives dans de nombreux pays. Mais il n’a pas eu le temps de rédiger le grand ouvrage que beaucoup attendait de lui. C’est pourquoi, pour retracer sa pensée, sa philosophie et les conditions de ses actions, il convient de construire un corpus de ses innombrables écrits.
