Le tarsonème du fraisier Phytonemus pallidus Banks (Acari : Tarsonemidae) est un acarien ravageur invisible à l’œil nu et de plus en plus préoccupant en fraisière en raison des pertes de rendement considérables qu’il occasionne. Le retrait récent de l’insecticide/acaricide endosulfan nécessite la recherche de solutions de remplacement. La lutte biologique à l’aide d’acariens prédateurs (Acari : Phytoseiidae) fait partie de celles-ci, mais aucune recherche n’avait encore été réalisée en champ sous les conditions du Québec afin de valider sa faisabilité. Les objectifs de cette étude étaient : (1) évaluer l’efficacité de trois espèces d’acariens phytoséiides, Neoseiulus cucumeris Oudemans, N. fallacis Garman et Amblyseius andersoni Chant, à contrôler le tarsonème du fraisier en conditions de fraisières commerciales; (2) évaluer le rendement et la qualité des fruits en lien avec cette méthode de lutte; (3) examiner l’effet possible de ces prédateurs sur d’autres ravageurs en fraisière et (4) mieux comprendre la dynamique de population du tarsonème du fraisier sous notre climat. Nos résultats démontrent que N. cucumeris offre une bonne efficacité, mais qu’il est très sensible au froid et trop dispendieux pour une utilisation en champ. En 2017, lorsqu’un plafond de coût fut fixé (1000-ha), aucun des trois prédateurs n’a pu réduire de façon significative le nombre de tarsonèmes. Le suivi des populations de ce ravageur au champ a permis la confirmation de certains faits connus, tout en permettant l’acquisition de connaissances nouvelles et essentielles sur sa phénologie. À la lumière des résultats obtenus, les trois phytoséiides ont offert un contrôle insuffisant du tarsonème du fraisier en champ dans les conditions expérimentées. Le tarsonème du fraisier demeure un problème très complexe et beaucoup de recherches supplémentaires sont nécessaires.
