Abstract
En 2011, deux torses et deux têtes masculines imberbes et juvéniles ont été découverts dans des niveaux de destruction à l’emplacement du Forum de Vaison-la-Romaine. Ils appartiennent à deux statues de captifs en très haut relief, qui se développaient sur plusieurs assises superposées de blocs de grand appareil. Ils formaient très vraisemblablement une composition symétrique structurée autour d’un trophée aujourd’hui disparu, qui rappelle les décors des arcs de Narbonnaise, même si les dimensions en sont plus réduites : les statues proviennent plus vraisemblablement d’un monument honorifique tel qu’une base monumentale. Aucun élément (vêtement, attribut, arme) ne permet de caractériser plus précisément le type de barbare représenté, même s’il relève d’un type plus fréquemment employé pour figurer des captifs orientaux : cette particularité iconographique fait l’originalité de ces nouveaux exemplaires.
