L’article présente comment l’utilisation de la MTE a permis de dégager une compréhension des modes d’utilisation de l’objet-groupe dans un phénomène social crisogène en examinant les écrits publiés dans un journal militant étudiant. Il décrit les étapes du processus d’analyse et accompagne le lecteur sur le plan méthodologique dans une perspective de transparence et de retraçabilité des résultats. Il met en lumière la perspective inductive du recueil de données et de l’analyse. Il expose les processus de réflexions, les risques de dérapages rencontrés ainsi que les solutions mises en place pour demeurer enraciné dans les données empiriques et retarder l’entrée de la référence aux théories existantes dans une perspective interprétative. Quatre fonctions ont été dégagées et sont pensées comme des déclinaisons d’une métaphore centrale nommée le groupe-barrage (en référence au barrage hydroélectrique). Le groupe est pensé comme un barrage qui, par ses multiples fonctions, permet la traversée de la crise.
