Abstract
Les changements sociaux contemporains liés à l’expansion de la banlieue et du milieu périurbain sont l’objet de préoccupations quant au rôle du rapport au lieu et de ses conséquences sur la détermination des liens sociaux et des interdépendances entre les individus. On peut se demander si, dans les circonstances, le lien social est affaibli voire menacé. Une étude de cas composée de quarante et un entretiens semi-dirigés effectués auprès de citoyens de la ville de Saint-Basile-le-Grand sur la Rive-Sud de Montréal nous sert d’outil d’analyse. En résultat, nous constatons un rapport au lieu marqué, à savoir un enracinement local et un ancrage familial soutenu qui témoigne d’un caractère familialiste et « localiste ». La sociabilité et les interrelations sociales sont notables et le rôle des enfants y est prépondérant. Le sentiment d’appartenance et l’identité sociale sont manifestes. Le portrait n'est toutefois pas unilatéral : individualité et sociabilité, engagement et distanciation, autonomie et isolement créent des tensions chez les individus et laissent poindre un rapport au lieu et des liens sociaux reconfigurés.
