Abstract
This publication documents an exhibition of light sculptures made between 1988 and 2000 by Toronto-based Neighbour, which finds its inspiration in religious decorations and the motifs of the eye, crown and spiral. After describing the dark socioeconomic and artistic context of the early 1990s, curator G. Hatt evokes the artist's beginnings, and her prints and sculptures inspired by luminous decorations from two neighbourhood churches, as well as by popular Mexican art. The author then reviews the artist's subsequent projects and exhibitions, highlighting the role played by light and electrical principles in the more recent installations.
