Abstract

This article is the product of a study in the fictional linguistic representation of Canadian characters in the American animated sitcom South Park. The most significant linguistic features of Standard Canadian English are analysed and compared to their fictional representation in the series. A tendency towards exaggerating the differences between American and Canadian characters has been found in all the episodes analysed, both from a linguistic and a cultural perspective.
