Abstract
Cette première biographie d’André Gorz (1923-2007) retrace le parcours de l’un des penseurs les plus clairvoyants de la critique du capitalisme contemporain. Né Gerhart Hirsch à Vienne, ce « métis inauthentique », existentialiste, autodidacte, qui pose la question fondamentale du sens de la vie et du travail, explore de nouveaux territoires théoriques. Anticapitaliste, il est très proche de l’extrême gauche italienne et incarne l’esprit de 68. Il est aussi l’un des premiers artisans de l’écologie politique et de la décroissance. Une pensée en mouvement, au service de l’autonomie, du temps libéré, de l’activité créatrice et du bien-vivre. L’intellectuel André Gorz, rédacteur aux Temps modernes, se double du journaliste qui signe Michel Bosquet dans L’Express avant de participer à la fondation du Nouvel Observateur. Cette biographie d’une figure singulière revisite aussi un demi-siècle de vie intellectuelle et politique, un voyage au cours duquel on croise Sartre et Beauvoir, mais aussi Marcuse, Castro, Cohn-Bendit, Illich, Guattari, Negri et bien d’autres. Au-delà de ses poignants récits autobiographiques – Le Traître (1958) et Lettre à D. (2006) –, qui témoignent de sa profonde humanité, André Gorz offre une boussole précieuse à tous ceux qui croient qu’un autre monde reste possible.
