Abstract
Répondant aux Mélodistes indépendants, le critique musical du Devoir affirme que la démarche de compositeurs comme Monteverdi, Haydn et Mozart était innovatrice, il défend la thèse du caractère inévitable de l’avènement du système dodécaphonique et soutient que la musique des trois Viennois a pénétré le répertoire. Il rappelle que la musique extra-européenne et celle d’avant le XVe siècle n’est pas tonale et que Schönberg a été chassé du conservatoire de Berlin en raison de ses origines juives. Il réaffirme la nécesité, du point de vue de la valeur, de faire la différence entre Cézanne et Bouguereau comme entre Milhaud et Varèse.
