Abstract
Nesse texto buscaremos analisar os contatos interetnicos entre agentes do antigo Servico de Protecao aos Indios (SPI) e os indigenas Kaingang, no inicio do seculo XX, como uma empreitada indigenista assimilacionista, especificamente em Sao Paulo. Evidenciando o protagonismo da India Vanuire, indigena Kaingang provavelmente nascida e trazida do Parana, e sua apropriacao narrativa por indigenistas do periodo, que a consideravam figura emblematica da defesa do sucesso da politica assimilacionista de Rondon. Buscamos tambem discutir como a manipulacao e producao da historia vincula-se as funcionalidades de instâncias de poder que a narram, a partir da abordagem metodologica desenhada por Michel-Rolph Trouillot quanto aos atos de silenciamento do passado. A pesquisa foi baseada nos relatorios produzidos pelo SPI, bem como em escritos de cunho antropologico que descreveram a trajetoria dos Kaingang e sua insercao na chamada comunhao nacional.
