L’objet de cet article est d’interroger la spatialité de la mémoire post-catastrophe et de montrer qu’elle modifie le rapport au territoire des habitants qui ont vécu l’événement. En considérant la crise éruptive de la Soufrière des années 1975-1977, nous étudions à la fois la mise en mémoire institutionnelle des événements et les mémoires individuelles des témoins directs. Nous montrons que quarante ans plus tard, les personnes conservent une mémoire sensible et chargée d’affects, qui est fortement spatialisée et qui possède une spatialité particulière. Vivre avec le volcan consiste aussi à vivre avec le souvenir de cette crise, qui est interprétée par les personnes comme une catastrophe. La mémoire produit ainsi de nouvelles territorialités et de nouveaux modes d’habiter. À l’inverse de la mémoire individuelle, la mémoire institutionnelle est en revanche peu présente et ne transforme pas le territoire.
