Este livro é uma compilação do antropólogo Juan Javier Rivera Andía, autor conhecido por suas pesquisas no vale alto de Chancay, vertente ocidental dos Andes centrais do Peru.A obra versa sobre o grupo quéchuafalante da região andina Lambayeque, norte do Peru.Nesta obra estão reunidos documentos escritos por aqueles que foram protagonistas dos processos de formalização da propriedade coletiva da terra e da revalorização das suas manifestações culturais.Na apresentação dessas "narrações outras" (p.18), Rivera Andía assume uma posição crítica ao horizontalizar essas vozes com os trabalhos etnográficos de acadêmicos que, por sua vez, optaram por pesquisar fora da predileta região sul andina.Essas insurgências, como bem explicitado na Introdução, permitem compreender "o mundo indígena dos Andes contemporâneos" (p.20).O livro está dividido em duas partes.Dentro desta primeira parte, inicia-se com o manuscrito de José Natividad Huamán Bernilla.
