Abstract
Architecte du modèle d’État providence nordique, détentrice du prix Nobel de la paix, Alva Myrdal a été l’un des personnages clefs de l’histoire politique du XXe siècle en Suède. Étonnamment, ses contributions à la politique internationale sont beaucoup moins connues. Ayant été l’une des premières femmes ambassadrices de Suède, elle a avancé des idées innovantes sur le développement social au service de l’égalité entre les peuples. Représentant la Suède dans les négociations sur le désarmement pendant la guerre froide, elle a joué un rôle crucial pour introduire des solutions non conventionnelles, alors que la situation semblait être gelée et les deux superpuissances incapables de parvenir à un accord. Son engagement contre les armes nucléaires et pour la paix lui valut le prix Nobel en 1982. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser l’ouverture contemporaine de la Suède à l’international à travers la trajectoire d’Alva Myrdal et de montrer les points de continuité entre les positions qu’elle a défendues en politiques intérieure et extérieure. Cet article biographique se concentre bien plus sur la seconde période de la vie d’Alva Myrdal que sur sa contribution initiale à l’édification de l’État providence.
