Pierre and his exiled family take up residence in Montréal. His mother helps install Opus Dei in Canada. Pierre is an important attorney highly involved in the Opus Dei hierarchy.At a meeting featuring Professor Maurisson, a Holocaust revisionist speaker, Dhabi and Courtemanche meet and strike their bargain. At a college soirée, Courtemanche , who under legitimate cover does security for events, meets Berthinet. The case comes full circle: the three men raised on loathing discover a commonality and participate in a heinous crime.François Lepage presents a novel of logic and philosophy, with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor. Three criminals and two detectives follow the path of their prescribed future, but the only consequence for all of them is that nothing turns out the way the reader would think it should. One would have to assume that Mandeville’s The Fable of the Bees, hence the abbreviated title of the book, was of great influence to the writer. When private vices turn into public benefits, something for the common good occurs. This one will keep you focused and on your toes.
