Abstract

La recherche en archivistique est inséparable de la réalité archivistique qu’elle doit analyser, mais qu’elle peut aussi orienter. C’est pourquoi, l’article décrit d’abord la double transformation numérique des archives : mise en ligne de documents analogiques numérisés et explosion d’une production nativement numérique très diversifiée. Il évoque ensuite les conséquences du numérique sur les processus archivistiques : fragilité des supports dans la durée, décentralisation possible du stockage, technologies d’exploitation des données massives et algorithmes. Considérant la place relativement modeste qu’occupent aujourd’hui les nouveaux objets et traitements numériques dans la recherche en archivistique, il s’interroge sur le positionnement de la discipline au sein des sciences de l’information et des sciences humaines.
