Abstract
Sidhu et al.1 published an important ELECTRA sub-study looking at major complications and death during transvenous lead extraction (TLE) stratified by centre volume, operators, patients, and procedure characteristics. We congratulate the authors for such a thorough study. The main findings of their study confirmed that procedures performed in low-volume centres (<30 procedures/year) were less likely to be successful and more prone to procedure-related complications including death than when performed in a high-volume centre (>30 procedures/year). There was no significant difference in procedure-related major complications (including death) when primary operator was a cardiologist or a cardiothoracic surgeon.
