Contrairement à une idée reçue, le travail du comédien ne consiste pas à « se mettre dans la peau du personnage » mais plutôt à le faire vivre. Pour cela, il prête au personnage sa peau, son grain de voix, son regard, sa sensibilité, son dynamisme, sa présence : il l’incarne. Le comédien ne se met donc pas dans la peau du personnage, il le fait au contraire naître de sa chair, ainsi advient le théâtre.
