Alors que l’éducation à la citoyenneté devient le mandat de l’école québécoise au tournant des années 2000, cette expression demeure faussement fédératrice. De nombreuses recherches se sont penchées sur l’éventail des idéologies politiques associées à ces pratiques. Cependant, peu d’entre elles ont cherché à cerner la diversité des représentations de l’enfance et des enfants qui les soustendent. Cette recherche vise, par conséquent, à répondre à la question suivante : Comments’articulent les notions d’enfance/enfants et de citoyenneté démocratique dans les pratiques d’éducation à la citoyenneté des enseignant-e-s du primaire en contexte québécois? Pour cette recherche qualitative, 12 entretiens semi-structurés ont été menés avec des enseignant-e-s du primaire ayant déjà vécu des expériences d’éducation à la citoyenneté avec leurs élèves. L’analyse des résultats met en relief différentes conceptualisations de la citoyenneté des enfants. Ces dernières reposent sur des représentations distinctes de la position et du rôle des enfants dans la société et débouchent, de ce fait, sur des pratiques éducatives variées.
