Abstract
Pierre Guyotat’s poetics implies an inexhaustible tension between the will to do away with the family, cultural and artistic inheritances that are reviled, and the desire that they may be recaptured. Yet as rejection, incorporation and anticipation interweave, emerges the possibility of an utopia of verb and identity that raises the question of the future of French literature and language. In this view, the writer’s ambivalent relation with traditions and canons of Western literature and arts exemplify the very paradoxes of his oeuvre, which aims at the impossible (re)conquest of a primal “eloquence” of the French language (Explications, 2000).
