Abstract
À travers l’exemple de deux anciens quartiers industriels, à Caen et à Leipzig, cet article montre la manière dont des récits identitaires sont utilisés dans des projets de reconversion urbaine afin de doter les quartiers de valeur symbolique. Sur la presqu’île de Caen, les pouvoirs publics mobilisent un récit identitaire industrialo-portuaire qui a pour but de légitimer le projet urbain et de procurer une identité au quartier en devenir en lui conférant une profondeur susceptible d’attirer les investisseurs. Dans le district de Plagwitz, à Leipzig, les pouvoirs publics et les promoteurs privés prennent appui sur une identité créative déjà constituée et fortement incarnée par des groupes d’artistes et de militants. Ils transforment la valeur symbolique créée par ces groupes en valeur marchande. Cette hybridation crée une dynamique de marchandisation de l’espace qui menace aujourd’hui les lieux structurant le récit identitaire du quartier.
