Abstract
À la fin des années 1680, paraissent à Leyde puis à La Haye et Amsterdam, les premiers « mercures de Hollande ». Cette nouvelle forme de périodiques consacrés exclusivement à l’information politique européenne donne alors naissance à la première presse politique d’analyse et d’opinion en langue française. Tandis que cette production singulière est publiée uniquement en Hollande jusque dans les années 1720, à partir de cette date, les principales capitales d’Europe se dotent chacune de leur propre mercure en français. Tout en cherchant à saisir les mécanismes de la diffusion européenne de ce nouveau journalisme politique, cette contribution vise à interpréter les mutations subies par ce modèle lors de ses déclinaisons européennes et à interroger la portée politique de l’essor de la presse dans l’Europe des Lumières, depuis la fin du XVIIe siècle jusqu’aux années 1770.
