Abstract
The article deals with the problem of functioning of allied interstate relations in the Early Modern period, which is examined through studying various spheres of cooperation and daily communication between diplomatic representatives of allied powers. The author analyses mentions of the concept «Minister of an allied court» in the most famous works on ambassadorial law and diplomatic treatises of the late 17 th – first quarter of the 18 th centuries, and then shows, using the example of relations between Russia and Austria in the 1780s, how diplomats implemented the status of an ally in practice. This status provided its owner not only with tangible, though unwritten, personal advantages, above all, proximity to the court of an allied monarch, but also additional opportunities for professional activity which allowed him to perform more successfully foreign policy tasks of his own court.
