Abstract
Bien que les infections parasitaires soient communes chez les animaux, celles transmises a l’homme ne sont generalement pas identifiees comme telles, souvent a cause de l’absence d’outils de diagnostic adequats et du manque de connaissances sur le sujet. Dans cet ouvrage destine aux etudiants et aux professionnels de la medecine veterinaire et de la medecine, l’auteur fait le point sur cinquante-cinq zoonoses parasitaires en presentant la description du parasite, sa distribution geographique, sa prevalence, son cycle de developpement, les modes d’infection, les signes cliniques, les methodes de diagnostic, le traitement et la prophylaxie. L’ouvrage est divise en cinq chapitres correspondant aux cinq principaux groupes de parasites : les protozoaires, les trematodes, les cestodes, les nematodes et les arthropodes. Des tableaux recapitulatifs presentes en annexes permettent une consultation rapide de l’ensemble de la matiere. Alain Villeneuve est biologiste de formation et medecin veterinaire. Il detient en outre un doctorat en microbiologie avec specialisation en parasitologie. Professeur agrege a la Faculte de medecine veterinaire de l’Universite de Montreal depuis une vingtaine d’annees, il a participe egalement a de nombreux essais cliniques dans le domaine de la parasitologie.
