Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The paper examines the textual tradition of several works of Galen and aims to reconstruct the cultural background in which the re-birth of Greek medicine took place in the West between the late fifteenth century and the first quarter of the sixteenth, prior to the publication of the editio princeps of the Greek Galenic corpus in 1525 in Venice by the descendants of Aldus Manutius. The sixteenth-century medical renaissance took place between Padua and Venice. In this study a considerable number of Greek manuscripts are linked for the first time to the intellectual circles gravitating around Padua University, thus contributing to a better understanding of their textual and stemmatic links. The survey starts with Greek library of the Paduan professor of medicine Alessandro Benedetti and then focuses on the medical works of Niccolò Leonico Tomeo, Giovanni Battista da Lion and Marcantonio della Torre. The study concludes with a retrospective look at the library of Cardinal Bessarion, whose manuscripts were of paramount importance in the transition to modern medical science.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
