Abstract
Ce court article porte sur l’association entre le suicide et d’autres phénomènes psychosociaux, comme l’alcoolisme et la dépression. Des chercheurs ont constaté et étudié ce phénomène, plus particulièrement chez les professionnels pratiquant dans des conditions particulièrement stressantes, tels les avocats et les médecins. Ces conditions stressantes favorisent la combinaison de deux comorbidités interreliées au suicide : la dépression et l’abus de consommations alcooliques. Nous proposons notre propre hypothèse pour expliquer ces combinaisons à risque surmultiplié. L’alcool ne ferait pas qu’ajouter son propre effet dépressif sur le système nerveux central aux effets dépressifs cliniques d’autres agents dépresseurs; il augmenterait et multiplierait par amplification l’effet dépressif du premier agent, d’où l’augmentation correspondante du risque de suicide.
