Abstract
The PIFE (Processus d’Intervention Familiale Encadrée) is a family intervention process supervised by the judicial system and aimed at restoring a parent–child bond ruptured by acute parental separation conflict or parental alienation. This chapter presents the key principles guiding this intervention, and outlines a two-phase path to applying the PIFE’s protocol: a preliminary phase during which consent to a PIFE intervention mandate is granted by all parties and ratified by the court, and an evaluation is made to determine whether the conditions are met to begin a PIFE intervention process; and an intervention phase, where the process of restoring the parentchild relationship is achieved in stages, from a first parent–child reconnection at the psychologist’s office to a child’s first overnight stays with a distanced parent. It concludes with a presentation of the observations and findings that have emerged over the past five years of applying the PIFE protocol in our clinical practice in Montreal, Quebec.
