En France, en mars 2017, l’éditeur Hatier publiait un manuel scolaire qui utilisait l’écriture inclusive, dont l’objectif était d’éradiquer le sexisme dans la langue et donc dans les mentalités. Les résistances à son application furent nombreuses : l’Académie française, le groupe parlementaire Les Républicains dont était issu le premier ministre français Édouard Philippe, des militant·e·s de la « Manif pour tous » et des intellectuel·le·s se sont prononcés publiquement contre cette tentative d’inclusivité dans la langue française. Dans cette étude, nous proposons d’évaluer en quoi les arguments invoqués lors de la controverse de l’écriture inclusive en France s’arriment à des rhétoriques réactionnaires antiféministes.
