Abstract
Nous cherchons au niveau de cette étude à vérifier l’hypothèse selon laquelle la dette publique interne affecte la croissance à travers son impact sur l’activité du système bancaire des pays Africains. A cet effet, nous estimons un modèle à équations simultanées en panel dynamique basé sur un échantillon de 20 pays de l’Afrique Subsaharienne couvrant la période 2000-2010. Le principal résultat dégagé est que la détention des titres publics a incité les banques à prendre plus de risque et à accroitre leurs crédits au secteur privé surtout en présence de défaillances institutionnelles. Néanmoins, cet impact bénéfique de la dette publique interne n’a pas influencé significativement le rythme de l’activité économique car le système financier africain n’a joué qu’un rôle limité dans la stimulation de l’investissement privé et de la croissance.
