Abstract
L’efficacité énergétique et les émissions directes de CO2 du mode de transport aérien de passagers sont les plus faibles là où il est en concurrence, c’est-à-dire sur les liaisons terrestres à moyenne distance. Du reste, dans certaines circonstances particulières de remplissage, l’avion n’est pas nécessairement plus polluant que d’autres transports, comme la voiture. Mais le transport aérien dépend d’un produit pétrolier, le kérosène, et il est difficile de lui trouver des substituts. Comment agir face à ces défis ? Le premier type d’action consiste à ne recourir au transport aérien que quand on n’a pas d’alternative crédible et compétitive. La seconde consiste à diminuer les émissions de CO2 des compagnies aériennes, éventuellement même en développant une activité d’opérateur ferroviaire de grande vitesse.
