Desde os anos 1970, os sistemas educativos modernos visam ao desenvolvimento da autonomia do educando. Ora, um aluno autônomo deve, imperativamente, tomar sua própria vida em suas mãos e assumir suas responsabilidades. A esse respeito, a aprendizagem da autonomia na escola deve ser sustentada pela apropriação de uma postura ética. Na verdade, o aluno deveria considerar que ele se torna sujeito de sua própria ética. Essa é a ideia explorada neste texto.
