Cette étude multicas porte sur les pratiques observées de cinq enseignant⋅e⋅s d’histoire et leurs représentations de l’enseignement de leur discipline et de ses finalités. Elle suggère un tableau enrichi des finalités attribuées par les enseignante⋅s d’histoire du Québec en mettant en évidence trois profils : polyvalent, intellectuel et pratique. Elle invite à remettre en question le constat généralement admis à propos de la prédominance des pratiques magistrocentrées au Québec. Selon nos observations, trois enseignants sur cinq développent des pratiques qui relèvent de l’apprentissage-recherche. Cette étude montre également l’existence d’écarts entre les paradigmes de référence qui marquent les représentations et les pratiques observées. Les finalités assignées à l’enseignement de l’histoire semblent de meilleurs prédicteurs des pratiques.
