Abstract
De nombreuses personnes mobilisées pour la confection de masques artisanaux visant à parer la crise de la COVID-19 pratiquent ordinairement une couture de loisirs, parfois artistique (comme c’est le cas de certains pratiquants du quilting). Or, cette production, au-delà de sa finalité pratique, impose la maîtrise de normes techniques et scientifiques précises, comme celles de l’Association Française de Normalisation (AFNOR). Notre étude s’intéresse au passage de l’une à l’autre de ces activités pour comprendre ce que cette production a signifié pour ses acteurs. Ayant conduit une enquête anthropologique associant les méthodes du terrain in situ à l’exploration des mondes virtuels, nous avons voulu interroger les couturières et couturiers concernés au moyen d’un questionnaire en ligne, cette approche permettant d’aller à leur rencontre, malgré le contexte sanitaire. La question de la participation civile en temps de crise s’est finalement posée dans l’examen d’une mobilisation trop rapidement présentée comme un bricolage de fortune.
